About Me and Background Information
Hello, I am Juan T. Lopez, President of Amistad Associates, a consulting firm, and co-founder of Diversity 2000, a national think tank that focuses on compelling diversity issues. I began my work in race relations and I have been at the forefront of moving the work of race relations and affirmative action into managing diversity, diversity awareness, and working with a diverse workforce. I have worked in the public and private sectors for twenty-nine years. I began my consulting career in diversity in 1980 and since 1986, fifty percent of my work has focused on organizational development with local government. For five years I worked with Pacific Management Systems, a nationally recognized firm and one of the first to provide diversity training. I worked under the guidance of Dr. Price Cobbs, author of “Black Rage” and originator of ethnotherapy and valuing diversity. Currently, I am in the process of co-authoring a book on Latino leadership based on twenty-plus years of conducting Latino Leadership Education and Development Program seminars.
Education
I have a M.S.W. from the University of California Berkeley, School of Social Welfare, where I emphasized organizational planning and community health services. I also have B.A. degrees in Psychology and Latin-American Studies from Sonoma State University.
